RECAP: Brooklyn Bowl 3/9/2016 with Steven Bernstein, Brian Jackson and friends

We are still reeling from a sublimely wonderful show two nights ago at Brooklyn Bowl with special guests Brian Jackson and Steven Bernstein. Thanks to everyone who came out and shared the pure joy of the evening. We did some Antibalas originals together and performed the Brian Jackson/Gil Scott-Heron classic's "It's Your World" and "Home Is Where the Hatred Is" and Steven Bernstein/ Sex Mob songs "Mothra" and "7 Bars" with Steven conducting the band in the way that only he can.

Our pal trumpeter Takuya Kuroda dropped in to play on a few numbers. El Imperio with members of the Antibalas and our extended musical family, opened and crushed it. Big shout out to Binky Griptite, of Sharon Jones & the Dap-Kings who brought his vinyl crates for the evening.

Our friend Craig Carpenter from Afrophonics was in the house with his camera and shared with us some pictures from the show.

Here's the first round:

Final Brooklyn Bowl Residency 11-18-2015 / Weeks 1-3 Recap

Time flies when you're having fun. We have our final Brooklyn Bowl Residency show coming up this Wednesday, November 18. We'll be joined by special guests Lee Fields, Quantic, Sahr Ngaujah (lead in the FELA! musical) and some other musical friends. Raja Kassis's HUMANBEING will open.

The shows have been amazing so far, each one sold out to capacity. Brooklyn Bowl has been taking good care of us and we've enjoyed working with our own sound engineers Drew Thornton and David Liles, who you can hear mixing Sharon Jones and the Dap Kings, among others. We'll be posting highlights from each show to our Soundcloud Live Archives page soon.

In the first week, we invited Lorenzo Cherubini aka Jovanotti and performed two songs "Libera" and Melagioco from his latest album 2015cc featuring Antibalas.

See Tina Berardi's photos of the show HERE.

In the second week, Saul Williams came through. He added verse to Fela's It No Possible, and our originals "Pay Back Africa" and "Indictment."
